Description
I created Uncivilized out of a love for the 4X genre, but a lack of time to properly play it anymore. The game takes all the best elements of 4X and condenses it down into something that could be played in one sitting, around an hour or so.
The aim is to take away all the micromanagement and slow tedious parts (particularly the end game) of 4X, and focus on the planning and decisionmaking, while keeping the execution of your actions simple. This also will make it great to play on Steam Deck. and in the future the Switch/Switch 2.
How it plays
All actions are played off of cards, including scouting, building cities, upgrades and combat. You generate cards from your cities’ production, similar to how you would produce units or city upgrades in a typical 4X game.
The game is singleplayer only, against asymmetric, personality driven rival factions. Diplomacy and AI (the videogame kind, not the LLM kind) are a big focus, with many scenarios that can play out depending on the factions in play and how you treat them.
It is NOT a deckbuilder. The upgrade system/tech tree is more akin to engine building, where you can further specialise down the paths of military, culture or science to unlock even more powerful technology and abilities.
